Guild of Players presents The Good Life written by Jeremy Sams, and directed by Scott Cooper.
The Good Life, adapted by Jeremy Sams from the 1970s BBC sitcom by John Esmonde and Bob Larbey, centres on Tom and Barbara Good—an upper-middle-class couple living in suburban Surbiton. When Tom turns 40, he experiences a personal crisis and abandons his career as a draughtsman designing plastic cereal-box toys to embrace a self-sufficient lifestyle. Alongside Barbara, he transforms their home and garden into a micro-farm: growing vegetables, raising livestock, making their own clothes, and even generating electricity from manure. Their delight in this new “good life” clashes hilariously with the desires of their upwardly-mobile, status-conscious neighbours, Margo and Jerry Leadbetter, who are determined to preserve suburban respectability. Sparkling wit and neighbourly friction fuel the comedy in this reimagined stage adaptation featuring old and new escapades—including the antics of a goat named Geraldine.
