What time is the Theatre open?

We have new box office hours which means you can come in and purchase your tickets!

How can I get in touch with the Theatre?

The best way to contact us is through email (box@theatreroyaldumfries.co.uk) or phone (01387 254 209). If you'd like to send us mail, the address is 58-70 Shakespeare Street, Dumfries, DG1 2JH. We also have a e-mailing list for people to keep up to date with Theatre News & Events.

Is the foyer open to everyone?

Our foyer is the location of a number of heritage displays, and we welcome everyone to pop in while we are open to look around, pick up flyers for upcoming shows and buy tickets.

Do you have a Cash Machine on-site?

We do not have a cash machine on-site, but there are several within a short walk to the town centre. 

Is there parking nearby?

Blue Badge parking is available to the right-hand side of the Theatre, and free parking is available at the Brooms Road car park, a two minute walk away.

Is there Wi-Fi available?

Free Wi-Fi is available for all visitors to the Theatre. 

Tickets

How do I book tickets?

You can book tickets through the What's On section of our website, at Theatre Box Office, by phone on 01387 254209, at the Midsteeple Box Office in Dumfries town centre, or by purchasing at the door on the night.

What payment methods are accepted?

Debit and credit cards are accepted at the Midsteeple Box Office and online. Cash and card payments are also accepted at the Theatre Royal. We do not accept payments via mobile devices.

What concessions are available?

Where applicable, concession tickets are available for full-time students, senior citizens (60+), Young Scot card holders, children under 16 and school parties. All concessions are as advertised, exclusions may apply. Proof of concession status may be asked for on the door or when collecting tickets.

Babies and children: All children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Babes in arms are children under the age of two; for certain family performances there may be an additional charge for Babes in arms.

Discounts: Where applicable, discounts may apply; see individual performance information. For The Guild of Players pantomime, with the purchase of ten tickets the eleventh is free.

Can I get a Student Discount?

Some touring productions do have student discounts. Information is available on the listings for individual shows on our What's On page.

How do I book group tickets?

Tickets can be purchased online for a maximum of ten people. To book tickets for a larger group, please contact the Theatre directly on box@theatreroyaldumfries.co.uk.

What is your reservation policy?

In accordance with our reservation policy, tickets may be reserved for:

-One week, if booking is made more than 10 business days before the performance (s)

-One business day, if booking is made between 2-10 days before the performance (s)

Reservations are not available if booking is made less than 2 days before the performance (s)

Performances

Where can I find the running times for performances?

Running times for performances are posted above the Box Office before each performance.

Is there an interval?

Most performances will have an interval, but not all do. Please check the time details at the Box Office.

How can I find information about suitability for children?

If there is a specific minimum age or a recommended audience, it will be listed on our website. 

Will there be warnings for performances with loud noises/strobe lighting?

Signs about strobe lighting and pyrotechnics will be posted throughout the foyer for any show that involves them.

Accessibility

Is the Theatre wheelchair accessible?

We welcome everyone to Theatre Royal Dumfries and want to help make your experience as enjoyable as possible.

Wheelchair access: the foyer, bar, studio theatre and auditorium are wheelchair accessible, apart from the balcony which is accessed by two flights of stairs. There is a wheelchair accessible toilet in the main foyer.

We have five wheelchair spaces in our main auditorium. Please telephone the theatre or visit Midsteeple Box Office to book these wheelchair spaces.

Guide Dogs: Assistance animals are welcome throughout the building.

Do you have facilities for D/deaf & Hard of Hearing visitors?

Hearing Loop: The main auditorium is fitted with an induction loop. Please turn your hearing aid to ‘T’.

Do you provide audio description services for the visually impaired?

Unfortunately, we do not currently have the facilities to provide this service.

Are there designated parking spaces for disabled visitors?

There are several Blue Badge parking spaces immediately to the right-hand side of the Theatre available for visitors.

Does the Theatre offer a Disabled concession?

Yes. We offer concession ticket rates for most shows.

Does the Theatre offer a Carer concession?

Carer tickets are available free of charge on selected shows. Proof of eligibility may be requested on collection of tickets for those whose need is not obvious. This could be in the form of any document that demonstrates need.

Does the Theatre offer Relaxed performances?

Some touring productions may be more suitable for those who would prefer a more relaxed atmosphere. Please contact the Theatre for more information.  We offer a relaxed performance of our annual pantomime.

Getting Involved

Can I volunteer/do work experience at the Theatre?

Yes! We welcome volunteers of all ages and skill sets, and have a had a number of successful Duke of Edinburgh Award volunteers, Volunteer Scotland/Project Scotland placements and other formalised volunteers.  If you are interested in work placements, contact our Education Officer - education@theatreroyaldumfries.co.uk

Are there any vacancies at the Theatre?

We always welcome new volunteers and Guild members. Job Vacancies will be posted on our Get Involved page.

How do I join the Guild of Players?

What are the benefits of joining the Guild?

The Guild is a fabulous organisation for learning and developing skills in acting, design, carpentry and technical work. It is also a vibrant social group, with many members building lasting friendships. Members of the Guild receive a monthly newsletter with upcoming opportunities and events. Guild members will also be eligible for discounted tickets to some shows

Is there an age limit on joining the Guild?

The Youth Theatre is aimed at young people aged 8-16 and the Guild of Players is open to all ages.

How do I donate to the Theatre?

If you would like to discuss becoming a Donor to the Theatre, Legacy Giving or another form of endowment, please contact box@theatreroyaldumfries.co.uk 

Policy

Are young children permitted in the Theatre?

All children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult. For most performaces, children under the age of 2 will not need a ticket and can be in arms/on knee. (subject to change if the target audience is under the age of 5. 

Is photography/filming permitted in the Theatre?

Please consider other patrons and turn off your mobile phone and other electronic devices before entering the auditorium. Photography and recording in any medium is strictly prohibited; we reserve the right to ask any patron causing a disturbance to leave the auditorium and to refuse readmission.

Is it possible to arrange interviews with the cast and/or crew of a production?

Please contact our Marketing team at marketing@theatreroyaldumfries.co.uk to discuss contact with productions.

What is the process for ticket refunds?

Tickets cannot be refunded unless an event is cancelled. At management discretion, tickets may be exchanged up to 48 hours before a performance; tickets must be exchanged for the same production. We reserve the right to levy a £1 admin fee for transferred tickets.

Other

Is the Theatre available for private hire?

Yes! The theatre is available for hire for performances, meeting workshops, parties and more. Contact Norma at admin@theatreroyaldumfries.co.uk to discuss your requirements.

What is the maximum capacity of the Theatre?

Our main auditorium seats 190 and has 5 wheelchair spaces. Our Studio seats 60 and can accommodate 100 for a standing show. For more information, please contact the theatre directly.

What can the theatre offer to school groups?

The theatre is pleased to welcome school groups. For full details please email education@theatreroyaldumfries.co.uk

Are there catering facilities?

We have bar and kitchenette facilities, but no in-house catering. We partner with local companies to offer catering for those who hire our facilities.

Does the theatre offer backstage/private tours?
