COVID-19 Planning

UPDATED: 13th August 2020

The Guild of Players Board has taken the decision that live performances which were scheduled to take place at the Theatre Royal Dumfries from 1st September 2020 to 31st December 2020 will not be possible this year.

Staff will be contacting all ticket holders over the coming weeks regarding the rescheduling or refunding of performances and thank you for your patience at this time.

Meantime, the Board is taking advice about how best to make Theatre Royal Dumfries a safe and healthy environment for live shows in the future; this involves not only access and routes for audiences, but safe practice for rehearsal, backstage tasks, and for the additional cleaning which will be necessary.

As you will imagine, the months from March this year have been full of changes – from the guidance to close all live performances, to the response to the progress of Coronavirus over the past months, and the need for PPE in the future.

The Guild of Players Board furloughed staff in April, and has since then been following Government and Health guidance to keep staff safe and to look after Theatre Royal Dumfries so that audiences can be welcomed back when it is safe and sensible to do so.  To date, there has been no Government guidance on when live performances may resume.

Thank you for your continued interest and support, and for your loyalty to Theatre Royal Dumfries.  It is much appreciated and valued.

We face the changes and challenges with a shared determination to continue to provide Doonhamers and visitors from further afield with a good night out at a live show for many more years ahead.

Guild of Players, Board.

Further to our previous update, we have made the decision to postpone shows due to take place up until 31st July 2020 We are working hard to reschedule as many shows as possible; tickets will remain valid for the new dates or a refund can be provided if you are unable to attend.

We will be contacting customers in due course; if you provided only a telephone number or no contact details when booking, it would help us enormously if you could email with details of your booking. This will ensure we can get information to you quicker.

For a list of shows affected by this closure, visit the Blog section of our website.

For the next few weeks at least, our office will remain unmanned as we continue to work from home. As and when we have more information for you, we will be in touch.

Take care everyone and we hope to welcome you back to Theatre Royal Dumfries soon.

UPDATED: 26th March 2020 at 12noon

In line with the UK and Scottish Government advice, we made the difficult decision to close Theatre Royal Dumfries on 17th March to help limit the spread of COVID-19.

These are uncertain times and we need your help.

Our theatre would normally be alive with customers, artists, shows, volunteers and staff and yet the auditorium and corridors are quiet just now. We have been working to reschedule as many shows as possible that were due to take place in the next few months but, as a result of this unprecedented period of quiet, Theatre Royal Dumfries is more dependent on the generosity of its supporters than ever.

If you are able to consider a donation, however small, this would be hugely appreciated by all at the theatre and would help us to continue to stage high quality productions for the region. Click below to be taken to our donations page.

UPDATED: 17th March 2020 at 12noon

From Tuesday 17th March, Theatre Royal Dumfries is postponing all shows until 21st May 2020.  This is in order to avoid contributing to the spread of Coronavirus COVID-19, and in line with the UK and Scottish Government advice.

We have been monitoring the situation closely and are following the advice given.  The safety of our staff, volunteers and visitors is our top priority.  We are hoping to reschedule shows planned to take place between now and 21st May and will be getting in touch with all affected customers.  At this time, we are hoping to be able to offer you tickets to the rescheduled show or a credit note or refund.  We are working together with promoters to make this happen as quickly as possible, but this will take time so please do bear with us.

We apologise, but our Box Office will NOT be open during this time and we will not be able to answer calls or respond on social media. This is so that we can get in touch with our customers as quickly as possible - not because we don't wish to talk to you.

We'll let you know as soon as we have more information, please keep an eye on our website and social media for updates. In the meantime, please take care of yourself, your friends and family.
